Old Growth forest.

Hi Mom

Crossing the Hot Springs Fork of the Collowash River.

Classic climax old growth forest.
River and I hiked through a mile of this via cross country and compass.
There are many square miles of no trails or roads in this area.

Navigation through all of this can be daunting at times,
especially if you have a 40 to 50 pound pack on.
This kind of terrain makes for very slow going.
Good rule is assume 1 mile per hour.

Vine Maple (Acer circinatum) in fall colors.

We lucked out in that there were still some wild blue berries and
and huckle berries about half way in.
This was extremely unusual for early October.

This is the stream crossing in the official trail to Silver King Lk.

It was a very good day for fly fishing. High overcast. No wind.
This Brook Trout was caught with a 6 weight rod and size 10 black body Elk Caddis dry fly.
I caught this fish in water maybe 3 feet deep about 10 feet from shore.
